Locals chase down car ‘stealing fuel from parked truck’ in China

Locals chased down a car suspected of stealing fuel from a truck in southeast China.

The civilians were driving along a road in Maoming City, Guangdong province when they encountered a sedan parked suspiciously close to the truck on January 18. The car’s windows were rolled down, and its passengers appeared to be siphoning petrol from the truck’s oil tank using a tube.

Footage shows the alleged fuel thieves immediately withdrawing the device upon being caught, before being cornered in a parking lot as the locals bore down on them. However, the suspects reportedly managed to escape while officers were being notified.

Police said they have received a report about the incident, but declined to disclose further details.

Staff of the Xinyi Municipal Party Committee’s propaganda department said authorities have launched an investigation into the case.
