Footage shows a colourful Hindu temple in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple is also known as the Maha Uma Devi Temple or Wat Khaek and is found in the Silom district of the Thai capital.

It is built with extravagant South Indian architecture in bright colours and caters largely for the city’s Indian and Hindu population.

Thailand is predominantly Buddhist but the country has a long history of Hindu beliefs from when it was part of the great Khmer Empire. While in the Vaishnavism sect of Hinduism, the historic Buddha or Gautama Buddha, is considered to be an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. Many Thais are entwined with the mixture of the two religions.
