Superstitious villagers are worshipping a dead hermaphrodite baby cow born with two heads in Thailand.
Footage shows residents lighting incense in front of the animal’s body before saying their prayers in Buriram province on February 14.
Aside from having two heads, the hermaphrodite calf with two sets of reproductive organs had an extra ear poking out in the middle of its two heads.
Farmer Somorn Krasaesom, 66, said the special calf’s five-year-old mother cow had difficulty giving birth a day before on February 13.
He said: ‘The cow could not push its baby out so we called for veterinarians to assist us. They told us my cow may need a caesarian operation so I was worried.
‘I was relieved when she was able to deliver the baby on her own after five hours of labour.’
Villagers were shocked when the calf that came out was malformed with extra body parts.
Despite having two heads with noses, the newborn appeared to have difficulty breathing and was too weak to eat.
The farmer decided to take the calf to a clinic, but it died half an hour after it was born.
Somorn said he was devastated but believes the strange baby animal was a ‘gift from the heavens’ as he had dreamt about it before it was born.
He said: ‘In my dream, I was holding a baby like my grandchild. The baby was supposed to give me a prosperous life.
‘It came true. Ever since the cow was born, I became lucky. I even won 20,000 Baht on the lottery.’
The farmer is now planning to preserve the calf’s body so they could build a shrine for it near their house.
