A grasshopper plague interrupted pensioners playing bowls in Queensland, Australia, on Sunday (Feb 1).

The ravenous insects descended on the green during a match in Blackall as astonished players looked on.

One of the players at the sports club said they feared it was ‘a plague’ that would ruin their green.

The astonishing scene came as the grasshopper infestation spread across western Queensland decimating crops in Winton, Hughenden Blackall and Julia Creek.

Gregory MP Lachlan Millar described the grasshoppers as a ‘plague’ and called on the government to tackled the problem.
