Supporters of the military coup in Myanmar today (Feb 25) attacked protesters in the street.

Crowds of army backers pounced on pro-democracy groups holding rallies in the former capital Yangon, which has been the focus of protests since the military seized power on February 1.

One man was reportedly stabbed and attacked in the former capital. Another group of military supporters attacked residents with slingshots, stones and clubs, near Yangon Central Railways Station.

Angry crowds detained around 20 of the army supporters before police arrived and took them away.

Protests have erupted across Myanmar after the army detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi and seized power on February 1.
