Thousands of locusts cover the ground in Saudi Arabia

Footage shows thousands of locusts covering the ground in the Al-Qassim region of Saudi Arabia, on February 7.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that swarms of the crop-eating insects pose a threat to agricultural and pastoral livelihoods for millions of people from the Horn of Africa to Yemen.

Authorities have failed to bring the locust plague under control after it exploded in 2020 following favourable weather conditions and seasonal rains.
