This is the spectacular moment an avalanche crashed down a mountain in Alaska.
Residents heard loud booms around the Thane Mountain in the capital city Juneau on Wednesday (March 6).
Snow came tumbling down the avalanche control work was carried out by the State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
Officials said explosives were dropped from a helicopter to trigger several slides, including a large avalanche that created a giant powder cloud.
The work helps to prevent larger, unstable snowpacks from tumbling down unexpectedly and covering nearby roads.
