A Swiss motorbike rider was severely injured and his girlfriend passenger killed when they crashed into a truck while it was making a turn.
CCTV footage shows the big bike slamming into the 18-wheeler delivery truck while turning right on the border of Krabi and Surat Thani province, Thailand on March 12.
The motorcycle drifted onto the ditch before the two-wheeler exploded and caught fire after falling onto a canal.
The foreign rider, Andreas Meier, 58, suffered broken legs and severe burns caused by the blaze but is now in stable condition after medics took him to the hospital
However, his pillion passenger, Nittaya Ohara, 45, who was reported to be his girlfriend, did not survive the crash and died instantly from her injuries before the rescuers arrived.
The couple was reportedly riding for a vacation to popular destination Koh Samui island when they met with the accident on the way.
Andreas was still under intensive medical care in Krabi Hospital while Nittaya’s relatives were being contacted so they could prepare funeral arrangements for her.
The truck driver, who was unhurt from the incident, was already questioned by the police and will interview the Swiss national after he had been discharged from the hospital.
