Homes damaged after tropical summer storm slams into northeastern Thailand

Dozens of homes were damaged after a tropical summer storm hit Thailand’s northeastern region this morning (March 18).

Locals in Nakhon Ratchasima province said they felt sustained strong winds and heavy rains in the early hours of the morning. Houses, trees and crops were damaged.

Min Ritthichaiwatwong, 71, said: ‘Nearly the entire roof of my house was ripped away by the storm and a tree came down, crushing my car. ’

Government officials arrived this morning to asses the damage and help families affected.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the southerly and the southeasterly winds prevailed over the lower north, the northeast, the central and the east regions with isolated thundershowers resulting in thunderstorms with gusty winds.
