The resort was among dozens of buildings damaged when the gusts slammed into Mukdahan province. Trees were also uprooted and electrical posts blown over.

He said: ‘The northeastern region of the country has been at risk of being hit by the summer storms so everyone needs to be careful.’

Thailand’s Meteorological Department said the summer storms brought heavy rain, strong wind and hail to the north, northeast, east, central and upper south regions.

They warned said the torrential weather was due to a high-pressure system from China that was moving across the country towards the capital Bangkok.
