This is the dramatic moment a worker makes an impressive jump to safety after an overloaded barge he was working on snapped in half and started sinking.

The incident took place during dredging work near the town of Smederevo, on the right bank of the Danube River, in Podunavlje, central Serbia on April 8.

Footage shows how the barge was unable to bear the weight of the load the dredger was tipping onto it and it suddenly broke in half.

A worker on board the sinking barge showed off his quick reactions to make an epic save by jumping to safety across the water, which is at the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers.

Both ends of the barge lifted up as the middle section disappeared below the surface.

The worker was sent to hospital for checks after the incident but was unharmed.

The sunken barge and the dredger were both owned by DMB Shipping based in the Serbian town of Ruma.
