Thunderstorms and flash floods hit Bangkok this afternoon (April 21) as the country moves towards the monsoon rainy season.

Footage shows heavy rain lashing the Thai capital causing traffic on the roads, with some areas flooding where the water was unable to drain quickly enough.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
