Footage shows a small but powerful tornado smashing into homes in the Philippines.

Resident Kathleene Ann Torres looked on as the whirlwind passed by her home in Lemery, Batangas province, on May 15.

She said: ‘Some of our neighbors had their roofs blown away before I started recording. It looked small but it was very strong.’

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
