Thai police have swapped their guns for hand sanitiser gel as the country battles the second wave of Covid-19 infections.

Footage shows officers and soldiers gathering outside a quarantine facility in Ang Thong, central Thailand on January 13.

They wanted to remind people to wash their hands regularly and use sanitising gel, which scientists believe can reduce the spread of the coronavirus infection.

Police were seen putting hand gels and alcohol sanitisers into their holsters in place of their guns.

One officer said: ‘Gels and alcohol santisers are like weapons, we need to use them efficiently and at all times at work.’

Thailand has recorded 11,262 cases of Covid-19 and 69 deaths as of January 14.
