Thunderstorms cause flash floods in Bangkok

Thunderstorms brought heavy rain and flash floods in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday night (May 19) as the country’s annual rainy season arrived.

Footage shows pedestrians and motorcycle riders battling through the deluge shortly after 7pm local time. There were flash floods across the city with many locals getting soaked in the torrential downpour.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
