A road erupted violently in China due to suspected underground methane pressure.

Footage shows flames bursting out of the manhole where workers were repairing the drain before the concrete shook from the explosion in Wuhan, Hubei province on May 21.

Four people were injured and rushed to the hospital but they are now in stable condition. The explosion was believed to be caused by methane build up underground that ignited.

One of the shocked onlookers said: ‘It was like a strong earthquake. I thought we were all going to die. We were able to run away so we were safe.’
