Stranded residents saved after flash floods swamp homes in the Philippines

Rescuers battled to evacuate residents trapped inside their homes during flash floods in Southern Leyte, Philippines on January 12.

Several villages were submerged in the province after ten hours of non-stop rain during the night.

No one was reported hurt during the flood but some residents trapped inside the houses had to be rescued.

The state weather service said the nonstop rain was caused by a frontal system and the surge of the northeast monsoon.
