Residents saved an orangutan after it was lost in their village while searching for food in Indonesia.

Footage shows the brown-haired ape wandering on a road as locals tried to approach it in Muara Komam District, East Kalimantan on June 8.

Farmer Ali Maulana Dahrun said: ‘The orangutan was friendly and did not show any signs of aggressive behaviour or tried to attack us.’

The 15-year-old animal was feed some fruit and water before the police arrived to take it to the wildlife centre.
