This is the heartwarming moment residents helped a mother turtle return to the sea after successfully laying eggs under a hut by the beach.

Milahad Asmad saw the 3ft-long sea turtle during nighttime as it wandered along the shore and looked tired in Basilan province, the Philippines on June 17.

He said: ‘It was dark when I saw her so I thought I was mistaken but a few hours later we saw her under my house near the sea laying eggs so we decided to help.’

The turtle was able to crawl back to the water with the help of the residents. They also reported the nest of eggs to village officers for proper handling.
