Thai locals given free ‘hammer massages’ to relieve stress

Locals received free massages with wooden hammers in Thailand.

The stalls were set up to mark the re-opening on popular tourists destination Khaosan Road in the capital Bangkok.

The bizarre treatment sees therapists in traditional silk clothes whack people’s backs with wooden hammer and chisel type tools.

They believe that the ancient treatment, known as Tok Sen, helps to unlock trapped nerves and release the tension and knots from muscles.

The Thai hammer massages are a popular way to relieve stress and tense muscles in Thailand. Ttraditional Thai massages, which involves pressure on parts of the body and yoga-like positions, are also popular as are foot massages and oil massages.
