Residents fled their homes after heavy rains submerged several towns in Maguindanao province, the Philippines.

Municipal officer Bal Kadiding went to Date Montawal, one of the badly-affected towns, to rescue residents and bring relief goods on January 18.

He said: ‘The rain almost did not stop for several days and the villages were flooded.’

The heavy rains was caused by a low-pressure area of weather and northeast monsoon which overflowed Kapingkong and Ala river running across the province.
