This is the moment police officers descended on Extinction Rebellion protesters who were rallying to demand action over the theory of climate change.
Footage shows chaotic scenes at Oxford Circus in London on August 25, where the demonstrators blocked off roads, formed human chains, and erected a giant pink table inviting people to ‘come to the table’ and discuss the climate emergency.
High-pitched screams coukd be heard as the police tried to disperse the crowd. Around 200 alleged ‘troublemakers’ have been arrested for different offences since the protests started on Sunday (August 22), police said.
The protest is part of an ongoing campaign to demand an end to fossil fuel use.
Officials at the UN climate change panel recently released a report connecting fossil fuel usage to extreme weather phenomena currently experienced in different parts of the world.
