A tropical rainstorm battered Bangkok today as the country reaches the peak of its annual rainy season.

Footage shows heavy rain hitting the Huai Khwang area of the capital on Thursday lunchtime, September 9.

Thunderstorms, strong wind and heavy rain happen regularly during the country’s rainy season, which starts in May or June before finishing towards the end of September of early October. The rest of the year is dry for months on end.

Other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are also in their tropical monsoon rainy season/

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
