A heavy hailstorm hit northeastern China on Wednesday evening.

Footage shows ice showering vehicles in a parking lot in Panjin City on September 8. The hailstorm also reportedly killed several river crabs in the coastal city, causing local crab breeders to incur significant losses.

The Liaoning Weather Station raised orange hail warning signals in the province, including Panjin City, Fushun County, Anshan City, and Xinbin County.

Hail forms when storm updrafts bring raindrops to colder areas in the atmosphere. Liquid water that freezes upon contact cause hailstones to grow in size.
