Vietnamese man, 34, has kidney stone weighing nearly 400g and 10cm wide removed

A huge kidney stone weighing 400grams was successfully removed by doctors at a hospital in Vietnam.

The 34-year-old patient was rushed to the emergency room at Phu Binh General Hospital in Thai Nguyen City earlier this month.

He was complaining of severe stomach pain so the medics ran some tests on him and gave him medicine.

However, when the results came out, they found an egg-shaped stone in his right kidney which was around 10cm in diameter.

Doctors immediately scheduled a surgery for the man later that night and successfully extracted the stone on January 16.

Workers at the hospital could not believe its size so some of them even checked on it while it was being weighed. The scales showed the kidney stone, or gravel, weighing around 390 grams.

One of the doctors at the hospital said they were astonished at how the man was able to endure the pain for a long time.

He said: ‘A tiny kidney stone would have caused him terrible pain. This is a strange case.’

The doctor added that the stone is believed to have started to form in 2014 but he had endured it for several years until he was taken to the hospital.

The man is still recovering from the surgery at the hospital but he is still being monitored as the huge kidney stone was unusual.
