This is the terrifying moment an apocolpytic storm cell hovered over Sichuan province in China on October 3.

The swirling mass of clouds formed in the province on Sunday. Bolts of lightning could be seen flashing occasionally in the center of the vortex.

Supercells are a rare type of thunderstorm and are usually associated with intense weather phenomena.

Characterised by the presence of a mesocyclone, a rotating column of air within the storm, supercells persist for hours and can bring violent winds and damaging hail when they form.
