This is the moment a ship was blown up to prevent it from causing damage during floods in China.
Footage shows the vessel being blasted to bits while it was floating along the Jialing River in Sichuan province on October 5.
Local authorities said they destroyed the vessel as it would only cause more harm when waters start to rise due to heavy rains.
They said: ‘When the flood peak passes through the border, the ship will drift downstream more rapidly and it can only blow up.’
‘We were afraid that the flood would bring the ship to the power station and damage the bridge, so this method was used to avoid future troubles.’
Meanwhile, the Peng’an County government launched a Class I flood prevention response on October 5 and ordered residents near the river embankment to evacuate the area.
