A magnitude 5.7 earthquake that struck Pakistan blocked a road in Balochistan province on Thursday morning October 7.

Footage shows officials clearing rubble from the landslide that closed off a five-mile portion of the road connecting the towns of Harnai and Sanjavi.

Authorities said at least 20 people, including children, were killed while at least 150 more were injured after the quake struck around 34 km from Ziarat at 05:01 local time.

Many residents in the underdeveloped Harnai district, said to have suffered the worst damage during the tremor, use mud and stone to build their homes, making them vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes.

Balochistan provincial minister Zia Langove said rescue operations are underway but have been delayed due to landslides blocking off roads.

He said: ‘There has been quite a lot of landsliding, and teams are currently working to clear the roads to the area.’
