Stray dog rescued after its head is stuck in fence during flood

This is the heartwarming moment a stray dog was rescued after its head was stuck in a fence during a flood.

The pooch was trying to escape into higher ground when it passed through the broken gate after heavy rain in Khon Kaen province, Thailand on October 6.

It had been stranded in the deluge for almost an hour when locals spotted the animal while it cried as the water continued to rise in the area.

The stray was then removed from the fence by kind locals before being helped to a boat and taken to an animal shelter.

Onlooker Narit Wongpotisan said: ‘I saw the dog stuck in my home gate and was scared that it might drown. Luckily other villagers came and rescued it just in time.’

At least seven people have died and tens of thousands more are still stranded receiving aid from rescue groups due to the floods caused by Dianmu.

Ten provinces in Thailand, including Chaiyaphum, have been inundated by Dianmu, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of Thailand.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
