Strong waves hit Vietnam’s north-central coast due to Typhoon Kompasu on Thursday.

Footage shows seaside locals tidying up their equipment as the waves crashed onto the shore of Vinh City in Nghe An province on October 14.

Typhoon Kompasu is the eighth storm to hit Vietnam this year, making landfall near central Thanh Hoa province on Thursday.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said Typhoon Kompasu had weakened to a tropical depression over the Gulf of Tonkin on Wednesday.

Coupled with a new cold wave, Kompasu will bring persistent heavy rains in Vietnam’s north-central region until Friday.

The storm is rapidly moving west and entered central Laos on Friday.
