Locals flocked to a beach in China to collect hundreds of edible snails washed ashore by typhoon Kompasu.
Video shows the beach in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province strewn with scores of the Oncomelania snails on October 14. Beachgoers who heard about the news collected buckets of the mollusks to bring home and cook.
The snails are also sold in local markets for around 14 to 15 yuan (£1.59-£1.7) per kilogram. According to a resident, it was easy for a person to collect 50 kilograms the snails per day.
It is believed that typhoon Kompasu swept the snails out of hiding when turbulence stirred up their habitats in shallow waters.
