This is the dramatic moment an entire house was washed away by a flash flood in the Philippines.
Resident Susan Olbenario captured the gushing torrents of water sweeping away her neighbor’s house in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte on Wednesday October 20.
She said: ‘I was shocked because we were woken by heavy rain and flash floods. It’s terrifying to see that one of my friend’s houses is now gone. I thought it was just the usual rain but it almost wrecked our town.’
Officials said only the family’s belongings were left in the house when it was swept away. Meanwhile, the local disaster management office is currently monitoring the flood situation in the city.
The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are at the peak of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until late November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
