Police arrested a couple who were caught having sex on a Thai historical site.
Furious locals noticed the pair romping behind the ancient pagoda next to a busy road in Chiang Mai province on October 22.
Officers tracked down the couple and arrested the woman, Sirirani, 42 and her partner Chalerm, 48, after a video surfaced online.
They both confessed to having sexual intercourse in broad daylight next to the historical site.
The pair said they were ex-lovers who did not plan on doing it – but ended up in a passionate embrace when they met for a day trip and were swept away in their emotions.
Chalerm said: ‘I thought nobody could see what we were doing behind the structure as it looked hidden.
‘I had no intention of disrespecting the historical site. I would like to apologise to the people of Chiang Mai and I promise it will not happen again.’
Police Colonel Kittipong Phetchamunee said: ‘We found that the pair are ex-lovers from different cities but had arranged to meet up at the pagoda. After questioning, the pair confessed and apologized.
‘The couple was charged with public indecency and will be fined no more than 5,000 Baht (117GBP). The district police have been instructed to inspect abandoned areas to prevent such incidents from happening again.’
The pagoda was registered as a historic site by Thailand’s Fine Arts department on April 22, 1986. However, the area has become a frequent spot in which homeless people sleep and consume drugs.
Just three weeks before the incident, an OnlyFans couple was caught having sex against a sacred tree in the same province.
