A wild monitor lizard terrorised a police station in Thailand.
Police officers were just arriving at the building when they spotted the giant reptile crawling outside a prison cell in Samut Prakan province on October 29.
The shocked officers tried pushing the 1.6-foot-long creature away, but it only ran from the detention room and took refuge on the second floor of the building.
The local reptile specialist came to assist and found the monitor lizard jumping from the cell’s railings, attempting to escape. They chased the creature before finally catching it in front of a cabinet.
Police Lieutenant Chaowalit Yothatorn said: ‘I saw the lizard hanging outside the prison cell when I entered the police station.
‘Fortunately, the reptile specialist came and caught it before it hid somewhere we could not find. It does not look as big as other monitor lizards, but it weighed more than three kilograms.’
The creature was later freed into the wild.
