Shocked students ran out of a school building when an earthquake centred in Laos was felt in Thailand.

The children were busy cleaning the rooms of the building in Nan province on October 31 to prepare for school opening when the tremors rattled them and sent them rushing outside for safety.

CCTV footage shows the students screaming and running to the school yard during the earthquake.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at 11:04 in the morning, about 48 kilometres from Pua District in Nan province.

Local reports place the earthquake’s magnitude between 4.7 to 4.9.

Chutima Wandee, director of the school, said they found traces of both old and new structural damage in the building upon inspection.

There were no injuries reported from the incident.
