Northwestern China welcomed its ‘first snow’ of the year, marking the start of the winter season.

Footage shows the snow gently drifting down and blanketing a lone tree that had not yet shed its leaves, giving colour to the wintry landscape.

Locals reported experiencing temperatures of more than 10 degrees Celsius below zero.

The Xinjiang Meteorological Observatory said it has met with relevant agencies last October 31 to discuss emergency response for the coming winter.

It added that cold waves were expected across Xinjiang, including the northern part of Tacheng Prefecture, from November 2 to 5.
