A biker and his passenger miraculously survived after a tarpaulin flew off a lorry – knocking them into the wheels of a petrol tanker.

Dashcam footage shows the pair travelling along the Putrajaya – Cyberjaya Expressway in Malaysia on November 3 when the large black sheet came loose.

The black canvas cover, secured by ropes on the lorry’s sides, billowed in the air moments before it was detached and wrapped around the two-wheeler.

With their vision obscured, the motorcycle riders lost control veered towards a tanker truck’s wheels. The two skidded on the ground before grinding to a halt in the middle of the road.

Miraculously, they were able to get back on their feet and did not appear to suffer major injuries.

Superintendent Azman Shari’at, head of the Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, said his department had not received a complaint from the alleged victims.

He said: ‘The identity of the driver, victims and registration number of the relevant vehicles have yet to be determined.’

The driver who recorded the video, Chen, an expat from China who now lives in Malaysia, said he wanted the video to be a reminder to people to consider safety on the roads.

He added: ‘This would not have happened if the lorry had been fitted properly. The accident could have been much worse. Drivers should check their vehicles are safe.’
