Police crush thousands of illegal cigarettes and tobacco products in the Philippines

Footage shows police destroying thousands of confiscated cigarettes in Baguio, the Philippines, on Monday (Jan 25).

The city’s ‘Smoke-Free Task Force’ along with the government officials destroyed around P2.3 million (48,000USD) worth illegal products.

They crushed 183.3 kilograms of unlicensed cigarettes, 72.5 kilograms of homegrown tobacco, 25 units of electronic nicotine devices, and promotional materials such as ashtrays and display racks during the operation.

Councillor Joel Alangsab, Chairman of the City Committee on Health and Sanitation, said the items were confiscated from individuals and establishment during enforcement operations.

He added: ‘Baguio City now recognized as the top implementer of the Smoke-Free program at the national level and recipient of the prestigious DOH Red Orchid Award for the past two consecutive years.’
