This is the terrifying moment a wild monitor lizard tried to climb through a family’s kitchen window.
The large reptile tried to invade Kharika Shuanraksasat’s house in Nonthaburi province, Thailand on November 25. The homeowner was watching after her pet birds when she heard a strange sound coming from the window.
Curious Kharika walked over and was shocked to find a monitor lizard crawling over the mesh moving back and forth, attempting to enter her kitchen. Her birds were rattled upon seeing the beast clinging onto the window.
The lizard, however, fled after noticing the woman. It climbed down and disappeared from Kharika’s view.
She said: ‘This is not the first time this monitor lizard climbed on my home’s window. My birds were scared and I thought I had to do my best to protect them.’
Asian water monitor lizards live in canals and ponds in large cities in Thailand where they feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans. They are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria.
