China locals drive trucks into river to support embankment breached by flood during storm

Five truck owners drove their vehicles into a river to shore up an embankment that had been breached by floods during intense rains in central China.

Footage taken in July this year shows the empty trucks falling into the raging water in Henan province, which was battered by extreme, record-breaking rainfall that left at least 300 people dead in the deluge.

As the water has been receding in recent months, the locals decided to salvage the trucks, hoping to reuse their parts.

Mr. Li, one of the truck drivers, said: ‘I don’t regret sacrificing my truck because there were so many villagers who would have been affected by the flood breach.’

He added that he hopes to reassemble his truck after the river has been dredged, and plans to use the vehicle to make a living.
