Thailand cracking down on nightlife as Omicron cold spreads through capital

Footage shows tourist spots in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday afternoon January 7 as the country cracks down on nightlife following a rise in Omicron Covid-19 cases.

Holidaymakers were shuffling around the red light area Sukhumvit Road as well as the backpacker district Khao San Road, which has been closed due to a cluster of coronavirus flu cases.

It came as the government today announced that bars would have to stop serving alcohol at 9 pm due to a rise in cases, with more than 7,000 people reporting positive infections.

Despite the gradual tightening of restrictions, ministers widened the Phuket sandbox scheme to several other regions in order to keep revenue from tourism trickling in.
