Frost covers mountaintop as cold spell persists in northern Thailand

Layers of frost covered a mountaintop as cold spell persisted in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the chilly sunrise and tourists taking photos of the misty scenery while admiring the pink cherry blossoms which have begun to bloom.

The cold weather blanketed the scenery with thin ice over on Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai province in mid-January.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted the northern region to grow up to 3 degrees Celsius cooler in the following days. Scattered storms and cold weather are expected in the region as a cold air mass will be covering northern Thailand until the end of the week.

Wind blowing from the west and southeast will cause thunderstorms in some areas in the region. Farmers have been advised to prepare for possible damage to crops.
