Metal cover flies through air after youngsters throw firecrackers into manhole

This is the scary moment a metal cover flew through the air after youngsters threw firecrackers into a manhole in China.

The young boys had reportedly broken into the basketball court in Hefei City in Anhui province to play around on January 18.

CCTV surveillance footage shows the alleged trespassers tossing the explosives down the manhole, causing its cover to launch about three metres into the air. The boys were seen fleeing to avoid being hit by the heavy flying object.

Property staff who heard the noise rushed to the scene before calling police. They said: ‘The boys were not residents of the community. They destroyed the basketball court’s wire fence to get in.’

No injuries were reported from the incident, but the court has been closed off for maintenance.
